Magazine:

Time for another installment of 20 Questions, this time with member DR GONZO.

1. How long have you been watching "The Simpsons"?

I can recall seeing original shorts on "The Tracy Ullman Show" and then becoming totally hooked when the series first started. I was in college, and you couldn't go five minutes without hearing somebody say "Don't have a cow".

2. Who is your favorite Simpsons character?

Ralph, becuase whatever he says is guarenteed to make me laugh... "Smells like hotdogs".

3. What Simpsons character are you most like and why?

I will have to go with Bart on this one. I try to have as much fun as I can and avoid being serious whenever possible. I also have been known to be a wise guy now and again.

4. Are your friends and family fans of the Simpsons?

I have a few close friends who are hardcore "simpsoholics". They are the ones who introduced me to WOS. My family is what you would label as occasional viewers.

5. What is your favorite quote from a Simpsons episode?

In "Treehouse of Horror IV" Homer says "Lisa, vampires are make-believe, just like elves, gremlins, and eskimos." I fell out of my chair when I first heard that line and have never forgotten it.

6. What types of Simpsons collectibles do you collect?

I currently maintain a healthy addiction to all WOS items. I also have the family car, I plan on getting the bus, and the bongo figures.

7. What item in your collection is your favorite?

My THOH1. Not only is it a cool set, but finding one in late Spring of 2001 for $14.99 at a TRU that was going out of business was my luckiest moment as a collector.

8. What is the most outrageous (or difficult) thing you have done to obtain a Simpsons collectible?

When I was looking for the Christmas set I was "extra" charming and lavished an overwhelming amount of complements on a girl working at a TRU. She took the time to call every store in the area and then tried to locate one in the computer for me. When she told me that there was not one to be found, she started flirting with me. Not being interested and thinking quickly, I started to tell her how much my children were looking forward to getting one and that put an end to that.

9. What's the most you ever spent on a Simpsons collectible?

I spent $45 to get Lisa and somewhere around there for both Pin Pal Burns and Pin Pal Moe. My sister paid around $60 for the Christmas set for me for my X-mas present. The most will be when I buy GITDH, he's the only figure I need and I will take my time and try to get him for a reasonable price.

10. What World of Springfield figure would you most like to see (that has not been announced)?

Duffman or as a celebrity, Matlock.

11. Are you a completist? An opener or a MIMP collector? Why?

There is a certain pride when you can say I have everything but one figure ever made for the WOS. You never forget the looks people give you. It's either amazement or sheer terror; I'm not quite sure which. I can't wait until I can say I have everything [in the WOS collection]. Right now because of my living situation everything is still sealed in the packages. Once I get my new house I will have a room for all my toys to be opened and displayed. When that happens the SCS will have the exclusive pictures.

12. What are your favorite television shows (excluding the Simpsons)?

The Osbornes, South Park, Insomniac, Tough Enough2, Ed, Sopranos, OZ, The Golf Channel, Sunday Morning English Premiership Football on PPV, and The Worlds Strongest Man Competitions.

13. What celebrity do you want to see guest star on the Simpsons?

Since they already have paid homage to Dr Gonzo and HST in "Viva las Flanders", I can only imagine what would happen if the Simpsons met the Osbornes. Ozzy : "I'm the frickin' prince of darkness!" Homer : "Nice to meet you your majesty!"

14. How and when did you find the SCS site?

It was after I missed out on the Christmas set and I was going crazy trying to figure out when and what WOS [toys] were coming out in 2002. I found the SCS through a Google search, clicked the link and have never left. The SCS should be nothing but proud of the quality of its members and the information it provides.

15. In what ways do you think the hobby of collecting Simpsons has changed in the past few years?

I think its changed tremendously due to the explosive growth of the line's popularity. This increase of popularity has had a dual effect on WOS. On the good side it assures the true collector that the line will continue and Playmates will be able to offer more variety in the product. On the bad side the door has been opened for the opportunists to come in and take advantage of the demand. On the bright side, one can always take advantage of pre-orders and the abundance of indispensable knowledge gleaned from being an SCS member.

16. What was the first Simpsons item you ever bought?

I was in KB toys with my friend Joe. We were standing in front of a display of various figures from waves 1-3. He was already a WOS collector and I was trying to decide if I wanted to get in because I was already three waves behind. The more I looked, the more I liked. I made my decision and picked up everyone I could find off the display, which if I remember correctly was everything but Lisa, Mr.Burns, Smithers, Grandpa, and Krusty. So as I started up the isle, arms overflowing with Simpsons figures(I never use a cart), I'll never forget Joe saying to me, "Well, I guess you're in now". And thus began the mad quest that led me to this interview.

17. What is the one Simpsons item you want the most but do not have?

My holy grail, GITDH.

18. What else do you collect?

All kinds of action figures, I have hundreds. Comic books, Hunter S. Thompson related items, Ralph Steadman art, and Mercedes Benz memorablia.

19. Who influenced you the most from the show (be it character, writer, actor, etc.)?

I am going off the board on this one and am going to say The Simpsons in general. The shows comedic reflection on our society and the potential extremes that the show presents make me happy just to be me, not Homer.

20. Anything you would like to add?

Just to again offer my sincerest complements to everyone who plays a part in maintaining the high quality and integrity of the SCS. Whether is breaking WOS news or a ridiculous post in Moe's, everytime I log in I am certain there is something new and highly enjoyable for me to view.
