UPDATE (7/31): Playmates has informed us that the official Series 15 lineup includes Manjula, the Octuplets, Handsome Moe, Deep Space Homer, Brandine, and the Comic Book Guy reissue. Poochie has been deferred, and will not be part of Series 15.
The first look at the concept art for the upcoming Power Plant Break Room playset with Frank Grimes can be seen on the preorder page of online retailer Planet Action Figure. Their listing for Series 15 also slightly differs the one we were given by Playmates at the San Diego Con. We will get the answers on that situation as soon as possible.
Some concerns have been raised over the recent WoS test shots that have popped up on eBay, particularly those by seller kingsunrunner. Playmates had no knowledge of some of these figures and collectors have discussed other suspicions in our forums. They may be the real deal, but we can't say one way or the other. We really urge every collector to be very careful when purchasing rare items like this online, especially when their authenticity is so hard to prove.
Series 13 figures have begun hitting stores, and Michael Crawford has them displayed and reviewed for your viewing and reading pleasures at Michael's Review of the Week. (If the review is not on the front page make sure to check out the Cartoon Reviews archive for the date 7/28/03.)
The recent "Family Guy" UK DVD release has given the date of the Season Three DVD as October which means another R2 delay if correct (though we haven't heard of any delays in the U.S.).
Meanwhile, The BBFC has recently passed some more extras for the Season Three DVD ... read more
Michael Crawford gives collectors an advance look at the soon-to-be-released Simpsons polystone busts in the latest review at Michael's Review Of The Week. Reviewed here are the first series (Homer, Marge, Lisa, and Bart) as well as the upcoming Apu. (If the review is not on the front page make sure to check out the Cartoon Reviews archive for the date 7/23/03.)
SCS staffer Ham Salad reports finding all three Re-Release Dioramas at the Target in Alhambra, CA. They were $9.99 each. Be on the lookout for these two-packs at your local Target and other toy stores. Also, the Nuclear Power Plant Diorama (which is not a Target exclusive as already stated) should join this series in stores soon.
UPDATE: As noted by keen observer BobUK, the sculpt of the giveaway figures seems to be identical to the Series 1 capsule figures. We expect that the figures which have not been seen yet will also be from the capsule figure line.
Our friends up in America Jr. should check out Kelloggs Frosted Flakes, which has a limited-time offer for six figurines of Simpsons family members. Inside each specially marked box in Canada you get two figurines (Bart and one other). The exact list of figures is not known. Thanks to SCS member DoctorColossus for the heads up.
As we mentioned in a previous news item, FOX is releasing a 'best-of' DVD in R1 called "Christmas With The Simpsons". The cover art has now been revealed, thanks to TVShowsOnDVD.com. No exact details are known, but it is expected that the DVD will include "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire", "Marge Be Not Proud", "Miracle on Evergreen Terrace", and "Grift of the Magi".
UPDATE (8/2): A few miscellaneous updates/changes were made to the article.
We've got some great news from Comic Con on the 2004 lineup for the WoS line. Playmates Toys has given their planned list of upcoming figures and sets, which can be seen in the SCS Magazine. This list is pending final FOX approval, but mostly solid. Also, look for a write-up on our Con panel and our SCS Anniversary party in the coming days.
UPDATE (7/27): Added more pictures from Sideshow Toy's booth and the Wizards of the Coast Simpsons CCG table.
Greetings from California! Our SDCC 2003 coverage in our Magazine continues with a look at SCS staff and members present at the Con as well as other Simpsons retailers with non-WoS stuff. More pics and notes will be added soon.
