Merchandise Releases:
World of Springfield

Released in USA by Playmates Toys

The fifth and final THOH set by Playmates Toys and TRU was to the House of Pain, featuring the Simpsons 'manimals' characters. The set was cancelled by Playmates and TRU, however. The design featured Homer as the walrus, Lisa as the bird, Bart as the spider, Maggie as the anteater, Marge as the cat.

This set went through many different planned stages. It was initially going to be the Haunted Mansion from the first THOH special (the 'bad dream house') and be very episode-specific coming with the family in their PJs chasing each around with knives. Then it was decided to keep the set, but feature a variety of characters from different specials. Jack In The Box Homer, Raven Bart, Alien Maggie, Vampire Krusty, Werewolf Flanders, the Frogurt Guy, and a wacky Snowball II were planned (see sketch below for that scrapped design). Much later on the process, it was decided to switch to the 'manimals' theme and use the House of Pain from that episode for the environment, which became the final design for the set (see main image).
