Howdy SCS readers, sorry to go all PBS on you again, but the coffers are low and we need your continued help in raising the funds necessary to keep our website and forums alive. As an incentitive, we are holding a fundraising contest... the prize is a full set of the Burger King toys from 'The Simpsons Movie', including Golden Homer. For this contest, we will randomly select one SCS reader who contributed between August 29th and September 15th (amount of donation has no bearing on the contest; it will be completely random). To donate/contribute, visit the Fund Drive page on the site. Winner will be notified via email on September 16th.
Thanks! Your support is what keeps this site running and is immensely appreciated.
TVShowsOnDVD.com has the scoop on the DVD for the Simpsons movie, which hits stores on December 18th (just in time for Christmas!). It will feature two commentary tracks... One for the animators (David Silverman, Mike B. Anderson, Steven Dean Moore, Rich Moore), and one with the producers and cast (James L. Brooks, Matt Groening, Richard Sakai, Al Jean, Mike Scully, David Silverman, Dan Castellaneta, Yeardley Smith). In addition, there are a number of deleted scenes and promotional spots (here's hoping they throw in some BK ads!). Thanks to member allenjob79 for the heads up.
We received an email promoting a new Simpsons mobile game from EA, called 'The Simpsons: Minutes to Meltdown'. In the game you "Guide Homer in a race against time as he tries to prevent a meltdown at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant." There is also a promotional site-- eamobile.com/simpsons-- which has a desktop widget and a game demo. Sounds like a fun way to pass the day at the office when your boss isn't watching.
Toy2R is rolling out their line of Simpsons Qees (small vinyl toys from Japan), which we showed in our Comic Con coverage. Two Barts are out right now... a 3" and a 10" version (a blank white 10" version is also available). Michael Crawford takes a look at both Barts tonight on his Review of the Week website. These are getting good reviews so far, and were a pretty big hit at Comic Con. Hopefully a Homer (and more?) will come out later on. If the review's not on the front page, check out his archives for the review (dated July 24).
If The Simpsons Movie wasn't enough Simpson-y goodness to keep you occupied during the summer, then pick up the Season 10 DVD set, out today. As usual, it is available with both the Bart head box or a regular box. Best Buy and Target appear to be the best deal for in-store buys. Extras include commentary tracks, deleted scenes, animation showcases, Butterfinger commercials, other commercials, sketch galleries, and more. So open up your leftover Buzz Colas and have a marathon.
The Simpsons promotion at Burger King is continuing through August. For those keeping track, the newest toys this week are: Homer, Russ Cargill, and Ned Flanders. Those out from previous weeks are: Lisa, Maggie, Marge, Mr. Burns, Comic Book Guy, Apu, Krusty, and Chief Wiggum. Golden Homers continue to be available in limited numbers every week. You should be able to buy these toys without getting a meal.
