It's been nearly a year since the last Simpsons season DVD release. but Fox has finally announced a release date for Season 11. TVShowsOnDVD.com reports that it will be released on October 7th, as a four-disc set. No word yet on packaging designs or extras, but that info should be released fairly soon. Hopefully future releases will be back on a regular schedule.

UPDATE: Box art is now available, courtesy of Simpsons Channel!

Things have been slow for Simpsons collectors (the McFarlane line is dead, no DVD releases since 2007)-- and the ol' SCS to boot-- but now the very popular KidRobot company apparently hopes to change that. Courtesy of TNI, there is this exciting news:

This August, Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising and The Simpsons creator, Matt Groening, team up with Kidrobot, the world's premier creator and retailer of limited edition art toys and apparel, to release the first-ever Simpsons vinyl toy mini-figure series. For The Simpsons series, Matt Groening infused the line-up of Springfield citizens with a Kidrobot flavor, seamlessly merging The Simpsons' and Kidrobot's worlds.

The Simpsons x Kidrobot mini series starring: Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Hippie Homer, Mr. Burns, Smithers, Krusty, Sideshow Bob, Scratchy, Itchy, Apu, Fat Tony, Bumblebee Man, Duffman, Chief Wiggum, Barney, Comic Book Guy, Funzo, Lucius Sweet, and three mystery figures.

With 24 figures in total, The Simpsons will be the biggest Kidrobot-produced mini-figure series to date. Each vinyl stands 3 inches tall, includes a character sticker, and comes blind boxed to preserve its identity. Figures will be sold separately (or can be purchased by the case) for $7.95 at all four Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com and at select retailers worldwide.

Kidrobot founder Paul Budnitz says, "I have been continually inspired by Matt Groening's art. The toys we've created for The Simpsons are really a mash-up of our Kidrobot-style and Groening's original artwork."

"Kidrobot has created a fantastic toy line that casts The Simpsons characters in a fun, but highly stylized look," said Michael Peikoff, SVP Licensing and Merchandising for Fox Licensing & Merchandising. "This new line is a great new addition for any fan of the show."

Thanks to SCS member jellostick for the heads up.

UPDATE: Some previews images are available on the KidRobot forums.

The SCS gang will once again be at San Diego Comic Con. More details coming soon.

EA Launches The Simpsons Game

SCS staff member 'blueduck37' attended EA's launch party for The Simpsons Game at Universal Studios in California this past Tuesday. The game was released on the X-Box 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, PSP, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS systems this week. Matt Groening, James L. Brooks, Matt Selman, and others were in attendance at the party. Fans also had an opportunity to demo the game at stations outside. A report with images and video is available in our SCS Magazine. The No Homers Club has a report as well.

It's Got Paul Anka's Guarantee!

McFarlane's deluxe box set-- seriously, it's pretty big-- is now available at several online retailers (Entertainment Earth, among others) and some physical stores that cater to collector types (comic shops, the Virgin Megastore). Michael Crawford doesn't take Paul Anka's advice and looks at the big guy anyway, on his Review of the Week website. Michael gives a pretty decent review, with some minor quibbles. The biggest problem may be finding a place to display it. If the review's not on the front page, check out his archives for the review (dated October 31).

11/1/2007 Qee Party - discuss

SCS member kermy812 points us to a YouTube video of a Bart Qee Exhibit at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood. People are getting creative with the Qees. Want to get some of your own? BigBadToyStore has a preorder for a case of 24 Bart Qee figures (3"). Entertainment Earth has a blank 10" figure for you to create your own design on. Both are preorders, but should be shipping soon.

EA is releasing The Simpsons Game this week on the following platforms: X-BOX 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, PSP, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS. If anyone will be in LA Tuesday night, there will be a release party for the game-

"Come to the Universal CityWalk on October 30th starting at 8:00pm for a chance to play and purchase a copy of the brand new; The Simpsons Game! With over 40 minutes of animated cut-scenes straight from the artists of the TV show and movie and 16 episodes of a hilarious interactive adventure, this game is packed with the spoofs, parody and humor fans will love! Electronic Arts will also be tossing out to the crowd limited edition Homerballs, Simpsons Yellow T-Shirts, and other collectibles! Tune into KIIS FM DJs doing live call-ins, promotions and discussions on The Simpsons Game. With food, entertainment and special guests from The Simpsons TV show, this event will usher in a new era for action-comedy adventure!"

Reminder... When purchasing your game, don't forget to ask for your Homerball!

The latest deluxe boxed set by McFarlane Toys-- the Lard Lad set-- is starting to hit now. It has been spotted at comic shops. This all-inclusive boxed set includes articulated Homer with interchangeable masked and unmasked heads, Lard Lad with arm-swinging, mood-changing play action, and getaway car. The McFarlane online store has it for sale for $19.95 plus shipping. A second series of the main figures are due out at the end of the year. Still no word on the fate of the line after that.

McFarlane Toys has posted their 2008 release schedule... and there isn't a single Simpsons product on the list. We can't say for sure that the 2007 releases will be the last of the Simpsons line, but that's a strong possibility. McFarlane lines often end this way, not with any official announcement, but rather a disappearance of the line from upcoming releases. If anyone-- from McFarlane or elsewhere-- has definitive information on the status of the Simpsons line, please email us with info. We will post any responses we receive.
